Gunyah Animal Healing Sanctuary is a safe haven for animals needing long term care due to abuse, neglect, illness and special needs animals.

Situated in tranquil surrounds in the Yarra Valley in Victoria Australia, Gunyah provides holistic treatment programmes that cover all aspects of the animal's well being.

How you can help

Gunyah Animal Healing Sanctuary Inc. is a fully registered and endorsed charity, and we rely solely on donations and support from the public. We thank you for your support. Without it, we would not be able to continue saving the lives of so many animals who would not otherwise make it. Click here to see how you can help us help them.

About Gunyah Animal Healing Sanctuary

Gunyah Animal Healing Sanctuary is a fully registered and endorsed non-profit animal welfare charity located in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia. Although all animals in need are welcome, our focus is on those that need longer term care due to abuse, neglect or illness and special needs animals. Animals that need long term care do not always get given a second chance elsewhere due to lack of resources and time and that is where Gunyah makes a difference. In our mind it doesn't matter how long it takes for an animal to heal, they still deserve a second chance. Those that are unable to be rehomed because they are too old, traumatised, ill or disabled have a home here at the sanctuary, where they get optimum care and love for the rest of their days.

Meet Pete and Pippin, two of Gunyah's resident alpacas. Pete (left) had Rickett's Disease, hence his bowed front legs, and he was not wanted. Pippin was bottle reared at Gunyah from 8 days of age when his mum showed no signs of feeding him or bonding with him. His owners were unable to give him the five day and night feeds he needed daily for the first six months of his life.

Gunyah's therapeutic environment

We provide the animals in our care with an environment that is as natural and therapeutic as possible. This includes things such as natural diets and supplements, cage free living conditions and holistic treatment programmes. We also provide the residents with lots of love, interaction between species, safety and security. Many of them have suffered at the hands of humans, and they need this in order to trust again and regain their confidence. We have had great success with this approach in the past, and find it really benefits the animal's healing process and general well being. What makes Gunyah so special?

Providing holistic care and a loving home to animals needing long term care is part of the picture at Gunyah, but there is so much more to it. The bond and the level of love and interaction between the animals and between the different species makes the sanctuary a fairly unique and special place. The majority of the sanctuary's residents have come from less than ideal and in many cases horrific backgrounds, and to see them interacting with each other in such a deep, trusting and loving way is priceless. It is a big part of their healing process in many cases.

The videos below give you a good indication of what the sanctuary is about, and what makes it unique.
